Last Mile

Known to me as Singapore’s MBK, I hold fond memories of Golden Mile Centre. The Thai Supermarket reminded me fondly of the times my family and I used to visit MBK in Bangkok on our yearly holidays.

Sure, I wasn’t old enough to understand what the stores downstairs were, but at the age of 25 and walking through this cultural time capsule amazes me to no end.

I’ve long heard stories of how these shops and tenants survived, in grey areas, and never understood till I saw the state of the space in March 2023.

And then you contrast that to the living spaces above these seedy spots, and you’ll find a magnificent view of Singapore - overlooking the Stadium, Nicoll Highway and even parts of the CBD.

A gem of the past, finishing its last mile in the marathon of life.
